In 1994 the Oshkosh Area Keyboard Teachers Association initiated a fund-raising project to purchase a grand piano for the meeting room of the Oshkosh Public Library. A musical celebration day with the theme “Making Music With Friends” was held November 13, 1994. Ticket sales and donations by individuals and community groups enabled the purchase of a Yamaha grand piano. It was delivered to the library in April 1995.
Rules
To maintain the piano in good condition, a few simple rules apply.
- Advance registration for use of the piano is required at the time of booking of the meeting room. The piano will be unlocked only for groups who have pre-registered. Arrangements must be made through the administrative office at 920-236-5210.
- Moving of the piano is to be done only by library maintenance personnel or the piano technician.
- The piano will will not be moved out of the meeting room.
- The piano is not to be moved at all when the lid is up.
- The piano is to be kept locked and covered when not in use.
- Nothing is to be place on top of the piano, whether or not it is covered. This includes handouts for meetings, etc.
- No food or beverages are allowed at or near the piano.
- Any group or individual damaging the piano is liable for the cost of repairs.
Tunings and Maintenance
The major donors of the piano, the Oshkosh Area Keyboard Teachers Association, have agreed to pay for two regular tunings per year at optimum times suggested by the technician from Heid Music in Appleton. The date of the last tuning will be available at the library administrative office.
It is the responsibility of the person wanting the piano tuned for a special event to contact Heid Music (1-800-236-4343) to schedule the tuning with the technician and to contact the library to be sure the room is available for the tuning. A booking fee will not be charged for the use of the room during the tuning. These special tunings must be paid for by the person who initiates them.
Although there is no charge for the use of the piano, contributions for the maintenance of the piano from individuals or groups who use it are welcomed. Checks may be made payable to the Oshkosh Area Keyboard Teachers Association.
